Employers & Public Liability Insurance to protect your business
Competitive insurance quotation on employers and public liability insurance.
If you employ staff, by law, you are required to have a limit of indemnity of £5 Million for your Employers Liability cover. However, in practice, most insurers automatically give a limit of indemnity of £10 Million.
For Public and Products Liability, the minimum level of cover available from most insurers is £1 Million. However, we often recommend a higher limit than this, depending on your trade and on the type of premises where you carry out your work.
Some local councils will require you to have limits of indemnity of £5 Million for your public liability and some will require a limit of indemnity of £10 Million. However, should you be working at high risk premises, such as airports, quite often the requirements for public liability insurance can be well in excess of that and can often be as high as £50 Million.
We can advise you on a wide range of liability policies including:-
- Liability Insurance for business
- Tradesman's Liability
- Liability for computer contractors and the IT industry
- Land and Property Owners Liability Insurance
- Liability Insurance for proposers with an adverse financial history ( a history of company liquidation, bankruptcy, CCJ etc)
- Residents Association liability insurance
- Liability Insurance for insulation contractors
- Liability insurance for ex offenders
- Liability insurance for festivals, carnivals and events
- Liability Insurance for couriers
- Liability Insurance for Solar Panel Installers
- Liability Insurance for Fork Lift Truck Servicing Engineers and Lifting Equipment and Access Equipment Engineers
- Liability Insurance for Air Conditioning & Ventilation Engineers & Installers
- Liability Insurance for fork lift truck instructors & material handling equipment instructors
- Liability Insurance for car park owners and car park operators
- Liability Insurance for land owners
Employers or Public Liability insurance is often purchased because the contractor needs to provide proof of insurance to undertake a contract. Sometimes companies and contractors fail to realise that they are protecting their business or personal assets. It is very easy for the owners of premises to allege that damage was caused by a contractor, but it can be expensive to defend yourself and even more expensive if damages are awarded against you.
We have been approached by customers that have previously had to remortgage their house to pay for the legal costs and compensation for injury or damage they may have caused, just because they failed to take out liability insurance.
Examples of claims:-
1. A tiler left a tap running at a customers' premises, the premises flooded overnight and caused £36,000 worth of damage
2. A landscape gardener left a board covering some sand overnight, high winds in the night caught the board which hit a BMW parked nearby and caused £2,400 work of damage
3. An employee working on woodworking machinery amputated his arm. He was awarded £37,000 compensation. The legal costs were also nearly as much as the compensation.
4. A block paver was run over by a Cherry Picker whilst working on a construction site. The block paver suffered a number of injuries and following court proceedings received £150,000 damages.
